Northern Network for Performing Arts announces an Open Call for artists related to the Northern region to participate in a performing arts co-creation
Any art professional related to the Northern region can apply to be part of the working group, which creates a new performance during 2019. The working time, travels and accommodation costs will be covered during the working period.
Northern Network for Performing Arts administrates a new performance project called Northern Creation (working title). Through the project the network supports artistic work in the High North region, fosters new regional relations within the performing arts field and builds bridges between art communities. Northern Creation is a collaboration between max. 8 artists. The artists are selected through an Open Call in 2018. The call is open for all professions such as performers, designers, writers, composers, choreographers, researchers etc. from all art fields.
The artistic work will start with planning and independent preparation in the spring 2019. A four-week residency period takes place in Kaukonen, Finland, in August-October 2019. The performance will premiere in Iceland in October 2019 during Cycle – Music and Art Festival.
The call for artists is open until October 3rd 2018.
The applications shall be submitted online. The applicants need to attach their CVs, links to work examples, letter of motivation and to present an idea/ideas about what they would be interested in working with in this collaboration.
The selected artists will be announced by the end of the year 2018.
The selections will be made by an expert group
The artists will be selected by an expert group consisting of 4 performing arts professionals from Greenland, Iceland, Finland and Norway. The experts have been selected from the contributing organisations in the Northern Network for Performing Arts. In addition to artistic criterias the expert group aims to bring together like-minded artists who will be able to be inspired by each other and have a fruitful collaboration.
Northern Creation (working title) is a collaboration between artists who have a strong relation to the High North region, especially artists related to Northern Finland, Norway and Sweden, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. Nevertheless, all artists who feel related to the Northern region are able to apply. Northern Creation (working title) is about creating a new performance, which can combine different art disciplines. As an ensemble the selected artists will plan and create the performance, which should draw inspiration from the Northern region – the mental landscape, High North nature, local communities and northernity in arts. The performance will need to be suitable for touring and adaptable for different spaces.
The project will cover chosen artists’ travel and accommodation costs during the residency period in Finland and the premiere period in Iceland. The project also pays a fee/stipendium (approx. 500€/week) during the working time (approx. 5 weeks). The selected artists need to commit to start communication and planning within the working group and to prepare some tasks independently already during the spring and summer 2019, to be present during approx. 4 week working period in Finland in-between August and October 2019 and max. 1 week in Iceland in October 2019 before the premiere.
The administration and working language in this project will be English. The Northern Network for Performing Arts and The Northern Creation project are administered by the Silence Festival.
