What could/would/should contemporary circus dramaturgy be?
To celebrate the Europe-wide Nuit du Cirque weekend Cirko – Center for New Circus organises a discussion on contemporary circus dramaturgy with four artists from Academy of Artistic Thinking on Friday the 13th November at 16:30-18:00 EET via Zoom in English. The discussion is moderated by Cirko’s producer and dramaturg Jarkko Lehmus.

The discussion kicks off with a short introduction of the participants and their perspective on what contemporary circus dramaturgy might be. The introductions are followed by open discussion. You can pose questions or comments to us via chat. We claim to offer no definitive answers to any of the questions asked. However, we aim to discuss each and every one of them with utter irreverence.
Academy of Artistic Thinking (AAT) is a three-year project funded by Kone Foundation and organised by Cirko – Center for New Circus. AAT aims to develop dramaturgical and critical thinking and brings artists from different disciplines of performative arts to learn together and from each other in a creative, constructive, dialogical and relaxed atmosphere. The project consists of a two-year educational program offered during academic years 2018–2019 and 2019–2020 in collaboration with the Open Campus of the University of the Arts Helsinki followed by a performance production created in 2020 and performed in spring 2021.

Solmussa ja Maneesissa residenssejä sekä Taiteellisen Ajattelun Akatemia ja Petri Kekoni Company
Cie Nuua ja Kallo Collective työstävät uutta Cirkon residensissä marraskuussa. Lokakuun puolivälistä lähtien Taiteellisen Ajattelun Akatemian (TAA) opiskelijat ovat työskennelleet hankkeen päättävän esitystuotannon kanssa Solmu-salissa. Huima viiden viikon työskentelyperiodi päättyy viikolla 47, jolloin TAAlaiset valtaavat Solmun lisäksi Cirkon Instagramin. Petri Kekoni Company saapui Maneesiin marraskuun alkaessa, ja esitykset niin soolosta Möhkäle kuin 369°-ryhmäteoksesta pyörivät 5.–14.11.
Sparrauksella selkeyttä taiteelliseen työskentelyyn
Vallitsevan tilanteen myötä Cirkon henkilökunnan resursseja on pystytty suuntaamaan taiteelliseen kehittämiseen esitystoiminnan ollessa tauolla. Sirkustaiteilijoille on tarjottu sparrausta ja konsultaatiota esitystuotantojen eri vaiheisiin aina dramaturgiasta valosuunnitteluun, esitystekniikkaan, hallintoon ja viestintään. Reilu kymmenkunta taiteilijaa tai ryhmää on uskaltautunut konsultaation äärelle tähän mennessä. Syys-lokakuun vaihteessa pariakrobaatit Jenni Lehtinen ja Sasu Peistola eli Inni & Sasu työstivät tulevaa koko perheen teostaan Kadonnut Cirkon residenssissä. Ystävyys, toisen kohtaaminen ja yksinäisyys ovat uuden koko perheen esityksen kantavia teemoja.
