Unia Ounasjoen mutkasta | Hiljaisuus-festivaali

Taija Helminen ja työryhmä

Dreams from the Ounasjoki River is a work in four parts about the village of Kaukonen and Kittilä. It was commissioned by the Silence Festival now celebrating its tenth anniversary from dramaturge-playwright Taija Helminen and her team.

Performing in each part of the work are a circus artist, actor and musician. The first part will feature actress Marja Myllylä and the Festival’s Artistic Directors, Henna Kaikula and Mikko Perkola. The last part will unite the festival’s first Artistic Directors, Sakari Männistö and Timo Kinnunen with today’s.

Dreams from the Ounasjoki River is sure to be a surprise: the performance will not be rehearsed. None of the performers – the actor, musician and circus artist – will receive any instructions beforehand. The performance will thus be a unique event for all involved! It will also incorporate an installation which the audience will be free to examine during the Festival.

The work is a tribute to the village of Kaukonen, its history, its forefathers and the landscape through which the Ounasjoki swiftly flows.

A SILENCE FESTIVAL COMMISSION, DREAMS FROM THE OUNASJOKI RIVER IS PART OF TAIJA HELMINEN’S ARTISTIC PROJECT COVERING MANY YEARS AND SUPPORTED BY GRANTS FROM THE ALFRED KORDELIN AND KONE FOUNDATIONS.
