The number of performances and spectators keep increasing
The number of circus performances compiled in the statistics of 2011 was altogether 1 341. The number has increased by 13 % from 2010. During the years 2007–2011 the number of circus performances has nearly doubled.
The aggregate attendance of the circus performances was 413 514 spectators in 2011. The number has increased by 14 % from 2010. During the years 2007–2011 the aggregate attendance of circus performances has increased with over 100 000 spectators.
The number of performances abroad has increased
The number of contemporary circus performances compiled in the statistics of 2011 was 1077 performances in total. Compared to the figures of the previous year the number has increased by 30 %.
The aggregate attendance of Finnish contemporary circus companies in the year of 2011 was 72 092 spectators in Finland and 108 282 spectators abroad. Number of performances abroad (371) nearby doubled (191 performances in 2010). The aggregate attendance of Finnish contemporary circus companies’ performances abroad has increased by 67%. One-third of performances and more than a half of spectators for Finnish contemporary circus companies are outside of Finland.
During 2011 fourteen Finnish circus companies visited a total of 25 countries: besides European countries also in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Mexico, Brasil and Taiwan among others.
The circus companies included in the statistics produced altogether 35 first premieres in 2011.
