Online talk: Focus on the USA. Guests Jay Wegman (NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts) & Monique Martin (Harlem Stage, independent curator).<\/i><\/p>\n

The international field of performing arts is undergoing change both due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the climate emergency. On the Lookout <\/i>is a series of online talks for all dance and circus artists and producers interested in the topic.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday 14 September we connect to the United States and New York. Guest speakers Jay Wegman <\/b>(NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts) and Monique Martin<\/b> (Harlem Stage, independent curator) share their thoughts in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. What kind of activities are planned for the upcoming years and with which preconditions? How is the connection between artists and programmers kept alive? How does the future of international work look like from the point of view of US theatres and festivals?<\/p>\n

The event is organised in collaboration with the Consulate General of Finland in New York<\/b> and Anssi Vallius<\/b>, adviser of cultural affairs, will join the talk.<\/p>\n

Jay Wegman\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Jay Wegman is currently Executive Director at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU and a long time veteran of the NYC arts scene. Before stepping in at the Skirball Wegman was leading Abrons Arts Center in NYC.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Skirball is one of New York City\u2019s major presenters of international work, and has been the premier venue for cultural and performing arts events in lower Manhattan since 2003. The 800-seat theater, led by Wegman, provides a home for internationally renowned artists, innovators and thinkers. NYU Skirball hosts over 300 events annually, from re-inventions of the classics to cutting-edge premieres, in genres ranging from dance, theater and performance arts to comedy, music and\u00a0 film.<\/p>\n

Monique Martin<\/b><\/p>\n

Monique Martin is currently the Director of Programming for Harlem Stage, a performing arts center that commissions and nurtures artists of color while celebrating the unique and diverse artistic legacy of Harlem and the indelible impression it has made on American culture and the world. Martin brought her vision and expertise to City Parks Foundation (CPF) from 2007-2017 as Programming Director for SummerStage where she presented relevant, fresh and thoughtful programming to New York City communities annually in Central Park.<\/p>\n

As an independent curator and producer Martin has partnered with and produced for Joe\u2019s Pub, Disney Theatricals, Apollo Theater, New Victory Theater, Southbank Centre\/UK, Hip Hop Theater Festival, Harlem Stage, NJPAC, Queens Theater in the Park, HBO and numerous Broadway and Off -Broadway productions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Monique has served on national and international advisory committees, boards and panels, including Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n
